1. When it comes to chocolate, I lack all willpower.
I got so mad at Eric Saturday because he bought a huge bag of white/dark chocolate drizzled boy scout kettle corn. I yelled at him he better take it to work on Monday and then couldn't even finish the sentence because I knew we'd eat the entire bag by then and told him so. Then I thought to myself "well it's ok I won't eat it because I'm pro-love and don't agree with the boyscouts exclusion of gay members so I won't even touch this". Apparently my principles don't stand a chance against my taste buds because I busted into it like an hour later. Although I do feel strongly I wouldn't have bought it (haven't had a Chic-Fil-A milkshake in years despite living across the street from one!) but once the money is spent, there's no going back.
I also ate these. I first had a bag last week when I was sick but didn't bother to take a picture because I hadn't sat upright in days and knew I wouldn't blog. I bought the last bag Wegmans had, and I haven't seen it sold anywhere else. This is life changing candy.
I may quit my job to search for more of these full time. |
Lastly - did you know frozen Baby Ruths are really good? My workplace is doing this "random act of kindness" thing where you fill out a sheet with all your favorite stuff and everyone picks out of a hat and gets their person stuff to cheer them up throughout the year. My person likes Baby Ruths, which I figured were safe, since I didn't even know what was in them. I bought a pack of the mini ones to have on hand to give her and froze them. Let's just say she won't be enjoying any of that particular pack.
2. New Year's Resolutions
Generally I'm failing miserably at these by around mid-January, like the rest of the country. But this year I actually thought I was doing pretty decently.
After making our resolution paper plates, we use the rest of the pack to distribute paper plate awards. |
I'm nailing #1, recently accomplished #3, and #4 doesn't count because I'm fairly sure I wrote it under the influence (I mean, just read it, like I would ever say that). Still, it's October and I haven't cried at work yet (at least in front of anyone, which totally counts), so that is progress.
However, just when I was patting myself on the back, it came to my attention that I'd dropped the ball on #5.

3. Running
Running has not been great this week, but what can you do? I'm finally getting to the good parts in season 2 of Buffy, so yesterday I ran 8.1 miles (9:30 pace) on the treadmill solely so I could watch. I really wanted to just do that all week, but I suffer from intense fear that too much treadmill training will lead to my certain death in my 50 mile race, because about 47 of those miles are on trails. This morning, I ran 7 miles outside (no Garmin) while listening to Divergent. I read it previously, but I wanted to brush up in preparation for the third book in the series, which comes out this month!
I had been thinking I wanted to start doing some two-a-days to prepare for Stone Mill. I've woken up in the 4 o'clock hour every day this week (that's my way of forcing myself to do it again tomorrow, otherwise I'll be a liar on the interwebz). Even waking up before 5am only leaves me time for 7-9 miles, and I really don't want to make 3am wakeups a regular thing in my life. Two-a-days are really the only way to get more miles in.
I hadn't thought of it beyond the vague "yeah, I should do that". But I got home from work relatively early today with the intention of using that time productively: grad work and the four loads of clean laundry covering our couch. I think we can all agree it was the perfect time to blow all that crap off and run 5 miles on the treadmill! The universe agreed, because the Buffy episode ended the second I hit five miles. It was like 85 degrees in our apartment, but before the run I told myself it would be just like the sauna rooms on our cruise, just a tad less relaxing. I think this proves just how good I've gotten at self-delusion.
Please share your new year's resolutions and grade yourself on them. Hopefully I'm doing better than somebody. If you don't make them, share your favorite candy!
I saw candy corn M&Ms at my grocery store today. There were piles of bags.
ReplyDeleteYour entire first point had me cracking up-- I like how you rationalize not eating them because they are a jacked up organization :) But, to be fair, I've never eaten at Chick-Fil-A because I don't like 'em either. As for candy? Hmm, hard to tell. I'm going with Twix. They're delightful.
ReplyDeleteCvs by my work had tons of those m&ms. Guess I better try some... and probably get you some too

ReplyDeleteI'm not big on New Years Resolutions, although my husband & I try to take some time to regroup, rethink, and plan for the upcoming year in January. I *do* make a "32 Before 32" List: 32 things to do before I turn 32. But those aren't exactly resolutions.
ReplyDeleteSoooo instead...I enjoy many kinds of chocolate, although after living in Singapore for 8 months, I realized back in June that Peanut Butter Cups are almost impossible to find out here...so of course, they quickly became my favorite (although I've always liked them, I would never have called them my "absolute favorite!!!")

ReplyDeleteI didn't make any resolutions this year, total slacker here. I have no idea what whooty is... Chewy fruity candy is my downfull, I can usually ignore chocolate for a while, but not forever.
ReplyDeleteI didn't make any resolutions this year. I think my only goal was to PR in a marathon and I managed to do that in March. Now I'm just coasting.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your mom listens to a very interesting radio station.
I've been telling people that Stone Mill is totally on trails, I hope they don't find out that only 47 miles are on the trails and know that I'm liar!
ReplyDeleteMy treadmill running isn't optional so I'm just hoping it won't equal disaster next month. My treadmill is pretty dusty so it's basically like trail running.
Your decision to eat the kettle corn was purely economic... it was a sunk cost. Anyone can see that :)
ReplyDeleteTo help you out on resolution #5- I had no idea what a "whooty" was. I Googled it, which lead me to Urban Dictionary, which I'm pretty sure accurately defined it for me. In effect, you spread the awareness to at least one more person!
Can't wait for the last Divergent book!!
