A #fatfluential NYE

My last New Year's Eve in my 20s was a roaring success.

First of all, I spent the afternoon making Peanut Butter Stuffed Hot Fudge cupcakes.

Obviously amazing

We spent the evening with good friends, the kind that make you laugh until you cry even if no one consumes any alcohol. That sounded pretty after school special, but I promise, it was from the heart (although not meant to imply that we had some sort of teetotaler party). When you are lucky enough to be ringing in the new year with such a fantastic bunch, is there any way to improve the holiday?

Yes, there is: meat. I'm fairly sure that I ate more meat last night than I have in the past decade. As an added bonus, as you probably guessed from the previous sentence, that means this post will be a That's What She Said gold mine.

We started the night at Jackie and Dan's.

They had quite a bit of delicious food available but most notable was the bacon wrapped Ritz crackers.

The Ritz get all soaked in bacon grease while they cook. Just imagine it.
I guess I never realized what I had been doing but in the past I always evaluated any party/eating situation and categorized all the foods into what was off limits and what was ok to eat (aka: meat or nonmeat). Being at a party and having free reign to chow down on anything was a whole new world.
At this party, I not only ate, drank, and was merry, but I also learned. Specifically, I learned what an incarcerated hernia was. I'm a visual learner, so luckily they had a white board available.

From there, we headed to the main event. Our usual crew has been taking turns hosting NYE, and this year it was Casi's turn. Last night may not have been as wild as NYEs were when we were all a bit younger, but Casi is a Pinterest whiz, so she had all sorts of fun things waiting for us. She even decorated the walls with pictures of us at past NYE parties!

There was a "photo booth" complete with props:

She hand made sparkly champagne glasses and then we put cotton candy in to make them pretty!

Everyone got to put silver sparkly letters for their initials on their cup. Since the theme of the party was "2033" (our house number when we were just three crazy single girls, tackling city living), I went with my maiden name.

Plus, there was all the sausage I could eat.
There were also some classics. We watched the fireworks from the roof at midnight. And of course, no party is complete for us without paper plate awards.

Eric's been working on this for six whole years now.
I missed out on a very important one.

This was a result of both a secret vote and using a tape measure to measure circumference, so I can't argue it, but it was still quite a blow.

I may have been awake at this time here or there for crazy early races, but I don't remember the last time I went to bed this late.

I could have just said the time but I wanted to sneak
another picture of Harrison in here.

I slept until almost noon, or, as it will be known tomorrow, halfway through the work day. When I finally got around to wanting "breakfast" at 1:00pm, I begged Eric to go get us bagels.

Sometimes things happen that are just that perfect. While Eric was at the store, I checked out the Crouton Queen's blog, and she had posted a recipe for Buffalo Chicken Bubble pizza. We had a ton of leftover buffalo chicken dip, so I quickly called Eric to tell him to get some cans of biscuits.

Blocking out her real name makes me feel cool like a super secret spy

Highly caloric foods were essential. I may have lost out on the biggest whooty contest this time, but I will not let that happen in 2014.

Breakfast - bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel
Dinner - buffalo chicken bubble pizza

Don't worry, I'm not turning this into a food blog, because tomorrow I'm going back to my boring packed breakfasts and lunches. I just wanted to document all the #fatfluential #proof from my first New Year's Eve staying up until midnight as a carnivore.

What's the best thing you ate for New Year's?

  5. I have no idea why all of our friends were so lame this year. No one went out and a lot of the bars were even closed. So lame.

I need those cupcakes in my life.

  6. That random picture of Harrison made me literally lol.

And also whyyyy do you make all these delicious treats that I do not get to try?? The cupcakes, beer bread, champagne with cotton candy. Unfair.

What paper plate award did you get? The suspense is killing me.

  7. Egg and bacon on a bagel is the most amazing thing. Also, I think you've already surpassed me in the types of meat you'll eat territory. Way to go!

  8. Proud to make you feel like a super secret spy! Glad you liked the pizza. The bacon wrapped crackers...is there any extra flavoring? Can I find this on pinterest? Those look delish. And I am imagining the bacon grease flavor. Yum.

  9. I am jealous of your eggy bagel sandwich. Breakfast sandwiches are my favorite and let's face it, CA bagels are just not the same as NY/NJ bagels.
