4 days out

I think this week I will just be titling my posts based on how many days are left until JFK. Of course, I have a crazy busy week going on, so who knows how many posts I'll be able to write, but that's the plan.

True to form, Monday morning I could barely drag myself out of bed after ten whole hours of sleep. But, this morning, I actually woke up at the time I intended, without pushing snooze, after only seven hours. Maybe the iron is kicking in?

I also decided to try and reduce my sugar intake as we approach JFK, so yesterday the only sweets I had were two thin mints. It doesn't sound like that's worth noting, but its a huge reduction for me. Especially lately, because I've been eating like I plan to audition for Biggest Loser. Which actually might not be a bad post JFK goal now that I think of it. Jillian Michaels is coming back, and I have a deep love affair going on with her. And we all know about my crush on Dolvett. And my possibly even greater love of eating. That's sounding like a win/win.

Trifecta
But seriously, I'm really going to try not to buy any chocolate at Breaking Dawn 2 on Friday. Since Breaking Dawn 1 made me gag repeatedly (due to bloody scenes, not the horrible acting), that might be easier than I think.

Last night I did an easy 4 miles (no watch) after work, today is a rest day, and I'm planning on two more 4 milers this week, although to be honest if they don't happen I don't even really care. Just to clarify, this is in no way a properly executed taper. If you want to read about how that looks, check out fellow JFK runner Kristin's blog

I do feel really lazy in the short term, but I am starting to get that "craving a run" feeling, which I haven't had in at least 2 weeks. So while physically, I should be running a lot more during this period leading up to the race, mentally I think it's the best thing I could do to prepare. Some runners seem to be able to keep up high mileage year round and never need a break, but I'm just not one of them.

I got an additional workout last night at broomball. I played offense for three 9 minute quarters, and was exhausted. It doesn't sound like much, but try 27 minutes of sprinting on slippery ice and you'll see. Our team won 5-0, which is by far the highest scoring game I've ever been in or even heard of. A typical broomball game ends with something like a 1-1 tie.

Eric even told me that I played really well and he was impressed. This may sound biased, coming from my husband, but trust me it's not. While Eric is an extremely wise husband, and isn't fooled by even the most sincere sounding "no, really, you can tell me the truth, do I look fat?", he's also the most competitive person I've ever met. We sometimes have issues because he does things like critique my bowling form when I didn't even think we were keeping score. So when it comes to sporting events, he's not doling out compliments unless he means them.

He thinks I played so well because I got really pissed off after a girl smashed her stick full force into my foot. Did I mention this sport is also great JFK preparation? I also fell and hit my knee really hard. But we won, so who cares?

Who's the competitive one in your life (or is it you)? Do you run into problems as a result of differing levels of competitive spirit?

If you were on Biggest Loser, what would be the food they lock you in the room with (the one you just can't resist) during challenges? I think we all know what mine would be, but if it wasn't a dessert, it would be Cheez-Its.

  1. Ugh. I am the exact opposite and have a deep loathing for Jillian!

My lock-me-in-the-room food would also be cheez-its! I haven't had them since Myrtle Beach in February. I can't buy them. I'm forbidden, for my own sake.

    1. I'm with Emily. Jillian is just...ugh. I can't deal with her.

I once knew a girl who really could not have Cheez-its near her. She would sit and eat the entire box no matter how sick it made her. She was a little crazy.

  2. Mike's new life goal is to gain enough weight to be on the Biggest Loser. He likes to email me to tell me what sweets he's had at work (yesterday: Chocolate cake with PB frosting, and choc chip cookies). I love Jillian, Bob, and Dolvett. I have no idea how I'd be able to choose a favorite.

They could pretty much lock me in a room with any sweets and I'd be done.

  3. I am so excited for Jillian to be back-- she is sweet and Dolvett is beautiful, so my standards are pretty high for this season!

  4. Haha I am also trying to reign in the sugar, but somehow my husband and I ending up sharing a giant bag of M&Ms last night. Oh well. Carbo loading?? Lock me in a room with chocolate chip cookies and I'll have a serious problem.

Glad you are starting to get the "running itch" again! maybe we will get to mile 35 before we even realize we're running.

  5. I have a bit of a love affair with Jillian too. I've been eating everything in sight for about 2 weeks now. I was going to try to limit the sugar too but made chocolate chip cookies last night - fail! It's almost here!!

  6. Jillian is coming back?! This almost makes up for the fact that Dolvett is now, and forever will be, dead to me.

10 hours of sleep sounds like the most amazing thing that could ever happen to a human being.

  7. I am definitely the competitive one in my relationship and well, in my life except for my dad and my brother. My boyfriend likes to make fun of me when my competitive side really starts coming out.
And I'm so excited Jillian is back on Biggest Loser. I love her tough love attitude.

  8. Luckily my hubs is a sprinter and I am long distance so we really can't compete. It wouldn't be pretty.

    Can't wait for TBL.

I love Cheese It's too...Asaigo or slightly burnt Cheddar ones. I could eat the whole box looking for the burnt ones.

  9. Bob, Jillian, and Dolvett are going to be ridiculous on BL. I can't wait! I'm a big fan of sweets so I'm sure I'd get locked up with all the desserts.

  10. I'm in love with Dolvett, but indifferent on Jillian. I would be locked in the room with Cadbury milk chocolate with almonds bars. With normal foods, I go through phases. One day it might be pizza, another day a burger, don't judge.

  11. I think we both know that cherries are my downfall. I would be fine with any kind of candy, but I just don't know my limits with cherries.

I still haven't seen BL. Maybe I should start watching so I can finally understand these references.

  12. I just wish I didn't have to be fat to be trained by Bob. I love Bob so much. I think Jillian is super annoying. I stopped watching BL once it got so commercial, so I haven't seen any episodes with Dolvett...but holy abs!!

Patrick and I are both super competitive, but thankfully not too much with each other. Our running goals are so different that we don't really race each other, which is nice.

  13. Oh, I'm sorry - did you write a post here? Because all I can focus on is Dolvett. I don't even watch Biggest Loser, but now I think I may have to start.

I'm totally competitive, even when I swear I won't be. Board games are very serious events in my house.
